Mallika Movie Review
By Taran Adarsh Editor Rating : 1/5
In today's times, when storytellers are daring to break the shackles of stereotypical cinema, MALLIKA comes across as an obsolete fare that offers nothing new to the viewer.
Sanjana [Sheena Nayyar] is haunted by nightmares and vivid visions of a murder that took place in her house. Unable to take it any longer, Sanjana decides to go for a vacation, hoping that those visions will stop chasing her. She lands up at a fort cum resort in Rajasthan. However, little does she know that things are going to go from bad to worse at the fort, which holds a dark secret deep inside its chest.
The writing is shoddy and the direction, non-existent. In fact, director Wilson Louis ought to know that skin-show cannot substitute for a riveting story. The music is of fast-forward variety as well, barring the remix of the yesteryear hit, 'Woh Bhuli Dastaan Lo Phir Yaad Aa Gayee'. Visual effects are tacky.
The performances are below par. Sheena Nayyar can't act. Sammir Dattani sleepwalks through his role. Mamik wears one expression all through. Himanshu Mallik gets no scope. Rajesh Khera is stereotypical. Suresh Nair hams. The remaining actors are a bunch of non-actors.
On the whole, sitting through MALLIKA is an exasperating experience!

Vidya Balan to play Silk Smitha
By Bollywood Hungama News Network
So when casting for a film based on a strong yet sensual woman is being done, it's hardly a surprise that Vidya Balan seems like an obvious choice. Sure enough then Ekta Kapoor's next film, that chronicles the life of the infamous actress Silk Smitha, is into pre- production, the lead is being discussed and the buzz is that it's Miss Balan herself who will play the dare all Silk Smitha in the film.
Unlike what seems to be the obvious, the film does not revolve around the sleazy image that this late actress got stuck with, instead it's about how the industries complexity, stress and the eventual loneliness that led to her death. Silk Smitha was a south siren, a cult figure that defied conventions and made it on her own, circumstances and alcohol drove her to what is believed to be a death by suicide.
Milan Luthria, who is currently making Once Upon A Time In Mumbai for Ekta's banner will be directing this film.
Vidya Balan however hasn't confirmed the news.
But one thing is for sure, if Vidya is the one who would be playing this part, the film is a winner already.

God and Sex is inspired by Swami Nityanand escapades - Ram Gopal Varma
By Subhash K. Jha
Ramu doesn't deny that the film's title God & Sex comes in the wake of Dibakar Banerjee's Love Sex Aur Dokha. Says Ramu, "I won't deny that the word sex in a Hindi-film title seemed impossible before Love Sex Aur Dhokha. So to that extent, yes God & Sex is a title that owes its background to the earlier film."
The film would be inspired by the Swami Nityanand sex scandal. But it isn't prompted by Vivek Oberoi, a self-confessed devotee of the Swami and Ramu's close friend currently working in Rakta Charitra.
Smirks Ramu, "Vivek and I haven't been discussing Nityanand or the other god men and their sex lives. But I can't deny God & Sex is inspired by the Swami's escapades. But it's not his sexcapades that intrigue me. It's an image that I saw in the video of the Swami watching Hindi film songs on television. It just struck me that behind closed doors everyone from God men to gun-men is doing the same routine things."
Though the film will be called God & Sex it won't only be about god-men and sex scandals.
Says Ramu, "It's amazing how powerful our country's god-men get in the corridors of power. Whether its politics or sex people like Chandraswami and Nityanand exude power and command a mass following. I remember my aunt had gone to a prayer meeting for Satya Sai Baba. She came back and put up a large photograph of the man. I asked her what prompted her to do so, was she that impressed by his ideas? She said she couldn't follow a word of what he said. 'But so many people can't be wrong', that statement of her's stuck. These god-men generate mass hysteria because they are seen as a direct link with divinity. They are able to cash in on the gullibility, vulnerability and insecurities of the people because we live in desperate times and we need to have some faith to cling to."
God & Sex won't have a lot of sex in it. "How do these god-men manage to get so many women and girls interested in them? My film will dwell on that aspect. But it won't be a sleazy look at their world."

Abhay Deol says Stop cruelty against Bears
By Bollywood Hungama News Network The very utterance of Abhay Deol brings to your minds synonyms like 'Mr. Cool' 'Dude', 'Suave' etc… to name a few. Well, there is one more 'tag' that's attached now to his name, and that is 'Mr. Caring'. And vouching for this will be none other than the bears all over.
Even though the bears are synonymous and famous for their hugs and their hair (for medicinal purposes), the flip side of the coin is the tremendous pressures that these hapless animals are subjected to. That's exactly the point that Abhay wants to make. As a part 'Wildlife S.O.S', an NGO that works towards the animals' welfare, Abhay strongly wants the bears that are subjected to dance on the streets for the sake of earning money to be called off, since it involves lots of cruelty. As a part of his 'duty' as the brand ambassador for the same, Abhay has taken the cause to the national level and wants to request everyone to pay that extra attention towards these innocent creatures.

How Sendhil Ramarthy was cast in It's A Wonderful Afterlife
By Bollywood Hungama News Network
The tall, dark and handsome hunk from American series 'Heroes', Sendhil Ramamurthy, is making heads turn even before the first look of Gurinder Chadha's It's A Wonderful Afterlife has been revealed in India.
The LA-based actor, who was recently cast as a CIA agent in the noted US spy drama Covert Affairs opposite Piper Perabo, was approached by Chadha in December 2008 to meet for the role of Raj, opposite British-Indian debutant, Goldy Notay, who plays Roopie.
"Sendhil flew to London and we had lunch," informs Chadha. "He said he was determined to be in one of my films and happily he was perfect for the role; a good-looking out of towner who has not been in touch with Roopie and her family for a while. Sendhil was great on set, extremely disciplined and conscientious, and he made many a female heart flutter when he did a take - and some guys too!" she laughs.
Remarks Sendhil, "I had some time off between Season 3 and 4 of 'Heroes' and that's exactly when Gurinder was shooting for Afterlife. She's very good with her actors and the film gave me the opportunity of doing something light and different from Suresh in 'Heroes'."
Ramamurthy will attend the London premiere of It's A Wonderful Life on April 12, accompanied by his British wife and actress, Olga Sosnowska. The keenly awaited comedy, also starring Shabana Azmi, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Sally Hawkins in key roles, releases in the UK on April 21 and in India and Pakistan on May 7. It is an Indian Films and Bend It Films presentation in association with Studio 18.
